Kicking off this September is our dear friend DJ Anarres. A name you likely know and love already but if you don’t, then now is the time to listen up.
To present Anarres as a simple metaphor is perhaps not to their credit, but it is hard to imagine or describe them without a dusting of whimsy. Annares comes to mind as a well-loved couch at a house party. A defining piece of its environment that holds a space for those who seek comfort in moments where we look for physical, mental, and spiritual recalculation - worn lovingly into a shape that fits whoever seeks to discover it.
Deep crates is an understatement. Their evolving wall of records houses one of the finest collections of midwest techno I have ever seen as well as many gems across the sprectum of genre. Every month they graciously share thier treasures by way of Great Circles internet radio on their show Transcilence.
A founding member of the almighty Bounce House collective, their knowledge of dancefloors, sounsytems, lighting, and community have transformed the Philly underground. A DJ Anarres room is almost always in direct connection to the moment in time, with great consideration, and filtered through that deeply personal connection they have with music. It is tapped straight into the mainline and yes, what you hear is undoubtedly “that shit.”
Their production has largely stayed embedded in the ghosts of their machines, but I assure you, we have heard it and IT IS GOOD.
Spatial Awareness is 9 pm-12 am. DJ Anarres is the DJ.
Our door is donation-based with a suggested sliding scale of $10-$20 - no one will be turned away. Donations go towards paying the artists and organizers, and are greatly appreciated if you have the means to contribute!
Note: Spatial Awareness has zero tolerance for any kind of discrimination, including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, antisemitism, xenophobia, or any inappropriate behavior such as unwanted touching, grouping, or leering. If someone is making you feel uncomfortable, let our staff know, and we will remove the person from the space. Let’s keep each other safe and have a good time!
