When you think of Philadelphia’s rich history of musical contributions, you instantlynotice that it is also a city known for birthing some of the greatest internationally known DJ’s who are masters of their crafts. One such person who has deep roots and connections to the City of Brotherly Love is Skeme Richards. What started as a hobby in the early 80’s has turned into an amazing musical career taking him across the globe as a professional DJ and music connoisseur to play for events small and large, from night clubs to festivals, art galleries to film premiers and even to play guest spots on both independent and commercial radio.
Digging and spinning genres across the board, from Hip Hop to House, Funk & Soul classics to Disco, Jazz and beyond, Skeme keeps things classic and refreshingly new while continuously striving to separate himself from the pack. While maintaining originality in his brand, he keeps his first class status as a true party rocker all while satisfying and educating the partygoer at the same time. Quality is always of the utmost importance and the Skeme Richards brand has become synonymous with being a global cultural ambassador in connecting audiences of diverse backgrounds worldwide.
Skeme Richards is known within a large circle of Funk & Soul aficionado’s, DJ’s, vinyl heavyweight collectors, artists and record labels and has toured playing 7” vinyl during some of the most unique and successful nights across the globe with his Butta 45’s party which began in 2009. Not one to be a format purist and sticking to what has become the now trendy 45, he’s known for packing crates of Disco 12” as well while toting them on flights globally to entertain his audience and also maintaining a long standing tradition of what the DJ has been known for, his personal selections. No matter the genre, Skeme Richards fits the bill with his delivery, vast musical knowledge and understanding of what it takes to rock a party by reading the crowd properly and reacting accordingly.
With only 24 hours in a day, Skeme wears many hats that show his dedication to music. On the other side of the musical spectrum, he is also a writer and journalist who reviews vinyl releases from labels and artists across the globe on his Nostalgia King site which is the go to source for DJ’s globally to find out the latest releases that he gives the co-sign to. Over the years, labels have come to trust his ear and taste in music as the testing ground for new releases that he often introduces to dance floors months in advance before they they’re officially released. Over the years, he has also contributed content to print publications including Disco Patrick’s Hot Stuff Magazine (Netherlands) and Street Love Magazine (Germany).
Through his dedication and love of the music, the self-proclaimed “Nostalgia King” has built his brand as a “tastemaker” of sorts and continues to “make and break” records in the same fashion that many of the great DJ’s in the past. As a world traveler, you can find Skeme playing parties across the globe and touching down in some of his favorite destinations including London, Amsterdam, Germany, Russia, New York, Los Angeles, Japan, China and Korea and has shared stages with some of the best DJ’s and performers globally.
Sound Lounge Resident - Daniel Villarreal
Join us in welcoming Daniel Villarreal for his 3 month residency behind the decks in the Sound Lounge starting March 14th!
Entry is free from 9-10 with the Percy late night happy hour running during that time - $10 after 10PM.
One listen—and one look at the overlapping Venn diagram of musical styles navigated by drummer, percussionist, and composer Daniel Villarreal—reveals an artist who thrives across genres. In his case, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” feels especially apt. Villarreal moves fluidly from psychedelia and jazz to Latin rock, fusion, funk, blues, ballads, salsa, and soul, shaping these influences into something personal and unmistakable. At the center of his music is the beat: a grounding, propulsive groove that engages both body and mind, live or on record.
Known for his collaborative spirit, Villarreal has performed and recorded extensively with the genre-blurring collective Dos Santos, while also developing a growing body of work as a bandleader and sideman. His collaborators span a wide musical spectrum, including Jeff Parker, Anna Butterss, Joe Chambers, Neal Francis, Mary Lattimore, Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Charlie Hall of The War On Drugs, and cellist Leyla McCalla. Across these partnerships, Villarreal brings a composer’s ear to the drum set and an improviser’s instinct for structure, form, and restraint. Originally from Panama, he moved to Chicago in the early 2010s, before relocating to Philadelphia in 2023.
Raised on punk and hardcore, Villarreal’s musical foundation expanded under the mentorship of Freddy Sobers, drummer for El General and Nando Boom—pioneers of reggaeton in Panama. As Villarreal recalled in a 2021 interview with the Chicago Reader, “He told me that if I wanted to be a good drummer, I had to learn all the styles,” a philosophy that continues to guide his wide-ranging approach to rhythm.
As Dos Santos gained national recognition, Villarreal began envisioning a solo project. Early studio experiments led to a turning point during a 2019 trip to Los Angeles, when a simple stereo recording of an improvised session with friends clarified his creative direction. The result was Panamá 77, his debut album for International Anthem, released in spring 2022.
In October 2020, Villarreal joined Parker and Butterss for two afternoons of recording at Chicali Outpost in Los Angeles, their first in-person session after the pandemic shutdown. The resulting album, Lados B (2023), captured what Pitchfork described as “the pleasure of hearing three top-tier players rediscover the joys of playing with each other in real time.”
Since settling in Philadelphia, Villarreal has formed the Daniel Villarreal Trio with vibraphonist Victor Vieira-Branco and bassist John Moran. Their immediate chemistry led to a residency at Solar Myth and a forthcoming album slated for 2026. Whether leading or supporting, Villarreal consistently blurs the line between rhythm and melody, positioning percussion as a dynamic and expressive narrative force.

Dream Deeply w/ JJC
JJC says: “The last time I played the Sound Lounge at Percy, I wanted to do an eclectic kind of thing; it’s not every day one gets to play such a finely tuned room, so I brought all kinds of records I wanted to hear. This time I’m narrowing the lanes, keeping it beat-driven, and laying the groundwork for a glorious Friday night.”

Spatial Awareness - Lowiron
Spatial Awareness is excited to welcome one of Philadelphia’s most prominent standout and forward-thinking DJs, Low Iron, to the Sound Lounge this week for a special 3-hour set.
Low Iron is a Philadelphia bred and based DJ, organizer, and community creator. Shaped by and currently shaping the city’s club music and block party culture, they bring a deep respect for local dance music traditions and the communities that have influenced her, earning a reputation as both a trusted selector and a progressive and dependable collaborator within the Philly underground.
Low Iron began DJing publicly in 2021 with encouragement from friends and support from organizations like Vinyl Tap 215 and the community around WKDU. What started as a personal practice for her quickly grew into creating space for collective building on the dancefloor.
Beyond the club, Low Iron is committed to making DJ culture accessible to all ages. In 2023 she became a Free Library approved performer, hosting hip hop and DJ programs for youth and community members across their Philadelphia branches.
In 2022, she co-founded the regular occurring party Bass Down Low. Since then, the series has hosted a growing network of DJs and performers and has platformed legends like Rod Lee. Be sure to catch the next Bass Down Low lineup for Public Access on March 21 at a secret location TBA.

Music is 9-12. No food after 9, so come early if you want to eat. Door is a suggested sliding-scale donation of $5-10, or pay what you can. All funds go to the artist and promoters.

Take a Trip with Mario Cotto
Take A Trip with Mario Cotto + friends every first Saturday of the month! Happy hour with free entry runs from 9-10pm - $10 after 10pm.
From 2007-2020 DJ Mario Cotto spent virtually every single Saturday night in the basement studios of KCRW in Santa Monica broadcasting his Psychedelic Service to listeners worldwide from midnight to 3am PST. He’s played festivals, warehouses, bars, restaurants, weddings and basements. He’s opened for various artists including New Order & Moby. Not hemmed in by any specific genre, his is a decidedly eclectic mix of punchy dance music, new music of various genres, psychedelic rock, 70s AM gold, 80s synth, eccentric world music and ambient freakouts.
Take A Trip is another exploration of this notion; it’s not about the destination…it’s how we get there. *And I promise a fine time.

Spatial Awareness - MURRMURR
This week, Spatial returns with the newly minted duo, MURRMURR.
MurrMurr began the night Daniel Giangrandi and Jordan Landis met at Johnny Brenda's after a Cornelia Murr show (hence the name). Subsequently, what was supposed to be a post-concert sushi run quickly evolved into a conversation about music, which led to a spontaneous open-air session in Clark Park soon after. Blending Daniel’s roots in Philly’s DIY punk scene with Jordan’s refined sensibility, their sets pair contrasting palettes, allowing both styles to breathe and overlap in unexpected ways. Born in Philadelphia and raised just outside Baltimore, Daniel’s love for live music was sparked at Merriweather Post Pavilion and then honed through an internship at Echostage, where he realized a hunger to create experiences rather than just play songs. Returning to Philly after lockdown, he became a longtime Record Butler at 48 Record Bar, and expanded his pandemic radio concept, Wish Yuh Were Here, into patio parties and pop-ups, including the Clark Park session that brought MurrMurr to life. Beyond DJing, he’s a multidisciplinary creative—street artist, designer, analog photographer, muralist, and event architect—currently developing new editions of Zap.outdoorz, his Kaytranada-inspired Discotecque series, and other large-scale summer projects that continue to push Philly’s independent scene forward.
Also a born-and-raised Philly kid, Jordan Lee Landis has spent the last decade-plus spinning records in Colorado before moving back to the 215 last year. From rooftop sunsets to late-night warehouses, to chilled-out park sessions, Jordan presides over an eclectic collection of beats and grooves with a range that spans rare disco edits, soulful house, banging breaks, and techno. When they are not behind the decks, you can find Jordan teaching wine tasting classes at Fishtown Social, grilling out on their block in South Philly, or flailing their body on the dancefloor.
Music is 9-12. No food after 9, so come early if you want to eat. Door is a suggested sliding-scale donation of $5-10, or pay what you can. All funds go to the artist and promoters. Percy’s all-star staff is on hand to help deliver delicious drinks. Come cozy up with us!
