Spatial Awareness with Slump Test

June is finally here and kicking off Gemini season is Joseph Brooks aka Slump Test.

Slump Test is the DJ project of Louisiana-based designer and sound artist Joseph Brooks. His work spans visual and sonic media to interrogate questions of time, space, and landscape memory, constructing narratives and experiences to foreground otherwise-hidden narratives. He draws from a vast palette to craft sets that evolve cinematically, often blending the use of vinyl, digital players, and live electronics in a single night.

As a founding member of the Frequency collective, he helped to reignite Louisiana’s techno scene and steward alternative spaces for a new generation of underground culture in the American South. Since then, he has expanded his sonic palette, blurring the bounds between dub, minimal, and ambient, with recent forays into acousmatic and ecological soundscape composition through work with the New York Botanical Garden.

Joseph has been a regular attendee and supporter of Spatial Awareness over the past several months and has no doubt left an impression on us, not only as a lovely human, but also an inspired, obsessed, curious, and compassionate listener, artist, and producer who we are overjoyed to spotlight for this special evening.

His set will also act as a first listening party for his upcoming EP, ‘Universal Equations’, releasing on GERYON this fall!

Spatial Awareness is 9 pm-12 am. Slump Test is the DJ.

Our door is donation-based with a suggested sliding scale of $10-$20 - no one will be turned away. Donations go towards paying the artists and organizers, and are greatly appreciated if you have the means to contribute.
